Two police officers involved in separate shootings in Perth in May, have been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Investigations by the police internal affairs unit found the officers acted in self defence and the use of firearms appropriate in the circumstances.

In the first case, an officer shot and wounded a man twice in Applecross when he was threatened with a knife.

In a separate incident, an officer shot a woman in the stomach in Armadale after she charged at him with a replica firearm before threatening him with a knife.

Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan says the officer's actions were justified despite the woman's family ringing police and warning them she was suicidal before the incident.

"The police officer thought the woman was carrying a firearm when she came out of the building with a replica firearm and it's perfectly reasonable for a police officer to respond to firearm force with a firearm, so that's fine," he said.
